"Hedda"

Logline
A comedy feature in the sprit of Knocked Up and The Hangover, Mandoula offers a unique take on the classic rags-to-riches story. NELSON SIMPSON, a commitmentphobic slacker looking to earn a quick buck finds himself an unlikely guru when he becomes a doula (or birth coach) for fathers-to-be.

Synopsis
NELSON SIMPSON is a slacker who needs to make fast cash before his father passes the family strip club business on to his kid brother. Enter CLARK MARKMAN, a high-strung childbirth educator who wants to prove to his man-hating ex-wife, reproductive mogul DR. PENNY JOHNSON, that men are not obsolete in childbirth. Desperate to buy his father's club, Nelson apprentices himself to Clark and becomes a doula (birth coach) for DADS! When Nelson accidentally plays a video of his sister’s striptease at a birth, it is mistaken for a new delivery method and becomes a national craze. How long can Nelson and Clark keep up the charade?

Director's Statement
When I first moved to Los Angeles, I rented a room from a well-meaning but overbearing childbirth instructor. She was known for taking in stray humans and setting them back on their feet. Convinced I was destined to be forever unemployed and unlucky in love, I willingly played Eliza Dolittle to her Henry Higgins.

This loosely autobiographical story is inspired by the life lessons she attempted to impart on me. A mixture of seriousness and comedy, Mandoula's wacky, playful tone pokes fun at those in my generation who find themselves walking the line between emerging adulthood and extended adolescence.
